Terms and conditions
The agreement between you and Forestry Connect, in plain English wherever we can manage it.
Draft for review. Four details are still to be confirmed and are marked in square brackets below: the legal entity, the jurisdiction, the support email address, and the approach to first-payment refunds. Final wording to be agreed with the client and, where needed, a legal adviser before go-live.
1. Who we are
Forestry Connect is operated by [legal entity, to confirm]. These terms govern your use of the Forestry Connect website and platform. By creating an account you agree to them.
2. Membership and accounts
To reach members-only features you need an account and a current membership. You are responsible for keeping your login details secure and for what happens on your account.
Individual memberships are for one person. Company memberships are held by an organisation and given to named people through seats; your company admin decides who holds a seat and what each seat can do, and can remove a seat at any time.
You must be 18 or over to hold an account.
3. Payment and billing
Memberships are billed in advance, monthly or annually, and payments are taken by Stripe. We never see or store your card details.
Prices are in pounds sterling and include VAT where it applies. Stripe accepts international cards; your own bank sets the exchange rate.
If a payment fails, Stripe retries it and emails you to update your card. If it still cannot be collected, access is paused until the payment is sorted, and everything comes back as soon as it is.
We may change our prices. Existing members will be told before a change affects them, and a change only ever takes effect at a renewal.
4. Cancelling, refunds and cooling off
- You can cancel anytime from your account (Manage billing) or by contacting us. There is no notice period and no cancellation fee.
- When you cancel, your membership runs to the end of the period you have paid for, then simply does not renew. We do not part-refund unused time on a standard cancellation.
- On a free trial you can cancel any time before the trial ends and pay nothing at all.
- As a consumer you may have a 14-day cooling-off right when you first subscribe. If you cancel within 14 days of your first payment and have not used the service, we will refund it in full. [Approach to first-payment refunds to confirm]
- If we ever get something wrong (a double charge, a billing error), we will put it right and refund promptly. Contact [support email].
5. Acceptable use
You agree to use Forestry Connect lawfully and professionally. You must not misuse the directory, the feed, messaging or the jobs board, scrape or bulk-copy member data, or try to reach parts of the platform you have not been given access to.
6. Community policy
The spirit of the place
Forestry Connect is the professional home of UK forestry. Talk shop, ask for help, celebrate good work, disagree constructively. Treat the feed like a room full of colleagues you respect.
Not welcome here
- Abuse, harassment, discrimination or personal attacks.
- Unlawful content, or content that is misleading, defamatory or infringes someone else’s rights.
- Spam and repeated self-promotion outside sensible professional sharing.
- Sharing another member’s private information without their consent.
- Fake or misleading job listings.
How moderation works
- Any member can report a post or comment. A post reported by several different members is hidden automatically pending review.
- The Forestry Connect team reviews reports and may hide or remove content, and warn, suspend or remove accounts for serious or repeated breaches.
- If your content is removed and you think we have got it wrong, reply to the notification or contact us and a human will take a second look.
7. Your content and moderation
You keep ownership of everything you post. You give us a licence to store and display it on the platform so the service can work, and that licence ends when the content is deleted.
Content removed under the community policy above may be retained for a short period for records and appeals.
8. Liability
Forestry Connect is a place for the industry to meet. We do not vet members, jobs, contracts or the work that follows from them, and to the extent the law allows we are not liable for losses arising from connections, listings or transactions arranged through the platform. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. We will let members know of significant changes before they take effect.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of [jurisdiction, to confirm].
